Valuable life lessons taught to them by their mother Beryl Williams Singh were reflected on by her sons during a thanksgiving service in her honour last Saturday.

Vijay Williams Singh, in an emotional tribute, said his mother has left behind memories that the family will cherish for a lifetime.

"I will miss my mom dearly," he told a packed Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church in St Andrew.

"I left home when I was very young and have lived majority of my life away from her, but we never lost the mother-son bond. She taught me valuable life lessons which, I can tell you, have served me well."

He added: "Humility, kindness and the importance of family is what I take away the most. She reminded us to never take things for granted and to always remember where we came from."

In his homily, Father Howard Thompson urged congregants to ensure that their loved ones are loved and valued.

"For each of us as we journey through life, never take it for granted. Learn to give thanks to God in everything and to tell your loved ones that you love them," said Thompson.

Singh died on May 9 at the age of 78.
